Promoted to MICU
I went to bed Saturday night at 02:30 hours and got up Sunday morning at 07:00 hours when my alarm went off. I ate breakfast and read the comics. I then changed into my uniform and grabbed my suit case and Gatorade and headed up to Eville for my 24 hour shift. I got there and Tim and Jim were there. Tim was going off and Jim was coming on. I went in and clocked in and then did my rig check on 6-3. When I finished my rig check, it was now 08:10 hours and no one else had come in yet. When I went back to the day room, I heard Jim tell Tim that he was going to run it by the Supervisior to see what Tindell thought. I asked Jim if it was just him and me all day and he said yes and that I had been promoted to the MICU for the day shift. Jim then called Tindell and told him that he only had me and was going to use me on the MICU for the day. Jim then said he was going to Subway for breakfast. So we got in 6-3 and I drove him up to Subway to get breakfast. I got a wrap and chocolate milk. The Lykens Crew never came down for breakfast. Jim then did some shopping and picked up a few things and then we headed back to the station. Tim was gone by the time we got back. We were there for maybe 30 minutes when around 09:30 hours the tones went off for near syncope in Jordon Township, Northumberland County. We got up and started heading for the bay when the tones dropped again for an unconscious person in Spring Glen in Schuylkill County. The Lykens crew took that call and we took the call in Jordon Township. I told Jim that I did not know where I was going, so we looked at the map in the bay and he said we would go in through Klingerstown. I told him I knew how to get to Klingerstown, but once past there, I would be lost. So we went responding and I drove class 1 to the call in Jordon Township. Dalmatia Ambulance was the BLS truck. We got there and Jim ended up going along with Dalmatia to Geisinger. I then went to Dalmatia's station and sat and waited for Jim to get back. I listened to the radio while I sat there. While I was sitting there, the tones dropped for a phcyatric patient in Washington Township. The Lykens crew got cancelled on the Schuylkill County call so they ended up taking that call. Jim finally got back and we headed back to the station. We got back and I helped him restock and then he started his chart while we both watched Columbo on TV. After Columbo was over, I decided to do the dished in the sink and then swept the carpet and then swept the tile floor. Jim then wiped down the kithcen table and then went back to his chart. I sat down and watched Matlock on TV. I then got on the computet to check a few things. Jim then asked me what I wanted to do for dinner, either run down to Giant and get a slab of meat to cook on the grill, or go up to Ahsley's Pizza. I told him it was up to him and he said he had not made up his mind yet either. At 16:30 hours, I asked him if he wanted to run down to Giant and he said no cause by the time we went down there and back and then cooked it on the grill, it would be time for him to go home, so we were going to go to Ahsley's Pizza for dinner. I asked him if he was ready and he just sat there and watched TV. Sue then called and I went out in the bay and talked to her for about 20 minutes. Her, Amanda, and Kim were on the way up to Big Diamond for the races. After I got off the cell with Sue, I went back in and asked Jim again if he wanted to run up to Ahsley's and this time he said yes. So we got in 6-3 and I ran him up to Ashley's. I got three slices of pizza, a bag of chips and a soda. When I pulled in to park, I saw a bolt of lighting up towards Lykens and told Jim to put his window up. While we were eating, the power flicked on and off an initial time. Then it started pouring outside. About 20 minutes after the initial power flicker, the power flicked off and on again, a second time and then the third time the power went off and stayed off for about 15 seconds and then came back on. We decided we better leave and head back to the station before we would not be able to get the unit in the station incase the power went out again. I ran out and got the unit and swung it around so that Jim could get in without getting wet. He got in and told me to go over to Wal-Mart because he wanted to pick up a poncho since it was raining out. We parked and ran inside and he got a poncho. He then paid for it and put it on to go out to the unit. While he was putting it on, I ran out to the unit and started it up. When he came out of Wal-Mart I almost died laughing at the sight of Jim in the poncho. We then went back to the station. We got back and he got on his laptop and I got on the computer to look at a few things. Scott Wertz and Bruce then came in for the night shift and Jim then left. Once Jim left, I got the trash together and took it out to the dumpster and then took the dumpster out front. After Bruce did his rig check and Wertz went over the ALS gear, they talked about going to Jo-Jo's to get something to eat since they did not have anything. We had made the decision that Wertz was going to run the Squad and me and Bruce were going to run a BLS truck. I got a Ham and Chesse Sub and a Sprite. We then went back to the station and I got back on the computer to check my email. I then went out to the day room around 23:00 hoursand laid down in the easy chair. I decided to try sleeping there last night to see how I slept. I fell asleep around 23:20 hours and slept until I woke up around 03:27 hours. I got up and went to the bathroom and as I walked back to the chiar, the tones went off for a sick person in Upper Paxton Township, with us in place of Company 20. Me and Bruce got in 6-3 and took off. Lanny went to the scene and before we got on the scene he asked for a medic due to blood sugar problems. Wertz went responding and we met him in the Millersburg Square. He rode down and we took the lady down to Harrisburg Hospital. After we got what we needed, we headed on back. We dropped Wertz off and then headed back to the station. We were almost back to the station when Wertz got hit for seizures in Upper Paxton Township. He went responding and we went back to the station. Once there, I did my chart and realized that Wertz had the buffer so I saved it until he got back. I then went out and laid down on the chair and fell asleep again. I woke up at 08:15 hours and Bruce had left, Tommy, Leia and Wendy were all there. I asked Tommy if Wertz was back yet and he said no. I then put my pillow away and took my suit case out to my car and went back inside. Wertz got back around 08:30 hours and I got the buffer sheet off of him and then finished my chart. I then clocked out and headed on home. Once at home I went to bed and slept until 13:30 hours. I got out of bed and got changed into street clothes and then ate lunch, read the paper and watched All My Children on TV. I then got on the computer to do a few things. My mother then came home and I told her about my shift and then I ate dinner while I watched TV. I then got on the computer and did the IS-800, IS-100, and IS-200 courses on line and passed them. I then took a shower and just finished eating a snack. I am now getting ready to check the old email and surf the net. I will be on late tonight so if any sexy ladies want to talk to me, just give me a buzz.
