Straw Field Fire
Went to bed last night around 02:30 hours and got up this morning at 11:17 hours. I got out of bed and read the paper. I then ate lunch while I got on the computer to do a few things. I then headed up to the fire house at 13:00 hours to wash the Engine. I got there and Kenny was coming down. Bubba then pulled in with the Tanker and Michelle dropped House off at the station and then left. I had Bubba pull the Engine out so we could start washing it. He then ran the tractor back down to Valley Ag and he had me follow him in the Utility so I could bring him back. On the way back, he noticed that the genarator 2 light had come on and when we got back, he had me pop the hood so he could look at the engine to make sure the belt was still on. He got doing something else and forgot about it until Helen moved the Utility to wash it. Bubba then took a look at it and we found out that one of the belts had broken off. He had me run it down to Heim's and they put a new belt on and were done with it in about 15 minutes and I ran it back up to the fire house. Once back I then put tire shine on the driver's side tires on the Engine while Helen and House washed the Utility. Helen and Kenny then headed up to Wal-Mart and then Troy showed up to start washing the Tanker. I then ran on home to grab something to eat. Once at home I had a sandwich and then changed shirts and shoes and then headed back up to the fire house. I got there and put my gear in the Engine and then my father showed up, followed by Robby, Jess, LeeAnn, and then Kenny came back down. Troy ran home and took a shower and changed clothes and came back and then we were only waiting on Helen to come down. While we were waiting, Halifax got dispatched to a straw field on fire. We said that we would not be going. After thier Tanker and Chiefs went responding and gave a report tones started dropping. We heard them re-dispatch for Engine and Brush 29, then hit Millersburg's tones, then ours and then Dauphin's. They asked for Attack 20, Brush 38 and our Tanker. Well before we found it they only wanted the Tanker, we all went running for our trucks. Robby and Troy took the Tanker and left and Robby asked county if only the Tanker was due and they said that the Engine was now due also. I told my father to get in and go and about that time the phone in the station began to ring. We later found out that it was Robby calling to tell my father to take the Engine since Jason was going to go to the scene. We took off and then saw Jason behind us coming. The Utility then went responding also. We got there and they had us stage and send all of our man power down to the field. Keith Pottiger told us to take hand tools and head on down to the field. The Utility was pulling in at that time and once they stopped we pulled the Indian Rakes off and headed on down to the field. They had us hit hot spots with the rakes while Attack 20 and Brush 39 wet down the preimeter of the burnt area. It burnt about 2 acres of straw before it was stopped. 29 then pulled their Tanker into the middle of the burnt part and me and Jason Faust helped them put tw 100' trash lines on the pump. Jason and Skip had the one off of the passengers side and me and Waylon had the one off of the driver's side and we both proceeded to wet down the remainder of the field. We then headed on back to the fire house and hosed down the trucks and headed on up to Klingerstown in hopes of catching the tail end of the parade, which we did not. We got there and I got something to eat and then we left there around 21:50 hours and headed on home. We all stopped at the Shell in Evile and got fuel and then headed on back. Once back at the fire house I unloaded my gear and then headed on home. Once at home I took a shower and am soon going to bed as I am tired.
