Going Crazy!!!

I went to bed Thursday night around 02:00 hours and got up at 07:00 hours when my alarm went off. I got out of bed and got dressed and then ate breakfast. I then got things together and then headed on up to Eville for work. I got up there and John and Scott Wertz were there. As I walked in, Scott was leaving on a call in Millersburg and the Lykens crew was getting ready to leave on a call for Klingerstown. Matt and Tindel then came in as they were the other part of the day crew. We found out that Brian Wertz, never came in to work, as he had just gotten home from working at county at 07:30 hours. So Tindel decided that when Wertz got back that I would go up to Lykens. Peiffer's then showed up to do the fire extinguisher's. The Lykens EMT had brought 6-8 back and left it at the station. I was told to run up there and bring 6-8 back down so they could check the extinguisher on the rig. While I was on my way up to Lykens, we got hit for a fall victim in Lykens Township. Matt and Tindel took that call. I ran up there and threw my stuff in the day room and the fridge and then got in 6-8 and headed on back down to Eville. I got back with 6-8 and I took the fire extinguisher off. Wertz then got back and he wasn't there for long when the tones went off for a fall victim in Wiconisco. I got in 6-8 and we headed up to Wiconisco. We got up there and got the lady loaded up and took her down to Harrisburg Hospital. After we got what we needed, I drove back. Once back at the station I hekped Wertz unloaded the gear from 6-8 and the tones went off for breathing problmes in Jackson Township. It was the frewquent flyer again. Matt and Tindel took that call and went to Hershey. I then sat down and did my chart from the fall victim. The tones then went off for a burn victim in Millersburg Borough. Me and Wertz got in 6-8 and off we went. I drove him there and once 20 got the lady loaded up we headed on down to Station 29 as Wertz was flying the lady out. After she was flown out, I exchanged two oxygen tanks with Kim and then loaded all of Wertz gear back up. We then headed over to Sheetz. I grabbed something to eat there since my lunch was sitting in the fridge in Lykens. We then headed back to Eville. Once there things quieted down. Steve called me in to his office and asked me what I was doing Saturday. I told him that I was working down at 13 and he asked me if I could get someone to cover my tine as he wanted me to do a 24. I said to give me 5 minutes and I would get back to him. I then called Bill and he said he would do it. I then called him back and told him that I wanted to try around to a couple of different people instead of always going to him. I asked Sue and she said that Bob would probally want to go somewhere. I then called Alf and he said that he could do it. I then told Steve that I could do the 24, but I had to leave at 05:00 hours Sunday morning, due to having Essentials at HACC at 08:00 hours. He said that was fine. I then left Eville around 19:40 hours and headed up to Lykens with 6-8. I got up there and backed it in and Steppler was already there. He was going over his gear. The tones then went off for another call for the Eville crew. We were then going to head over to the Gratz Fair. When we went outside, we saw the bay door to Station 22-1, where they house their old 1941 International Engine, open. So we went over to see who was there and it was Jim Hoffman. We talked for a little bit and then we headed back over to the station. Bubba then called and I talked to hime for a little bit. While I was talking to him, Carl called and told me that 6-6, the truck we had scrounged up for them to take to the high school football game, had died and wanted us to come down and try and jump start it. So I told Steppler and we headed on down to the high school in Eville. We got down there and tried to jump start it and it was a no go. Carl had already made a call down to West End Garage for them to come up and tow it. So we talked to someone with the high school and they said that they would leave the gates unlocked for the tow truck to get in. We then loaded Carl and Audrey up to take back to the Eville station, when we heard Gratz talking on the fire channel about an accident on Market Street outside of the Gratz Fair Grounds. Just as we pulled up in front of the station, the tones went off for the accident. I switched seats with Steppler and he drove up to the scene. We got there and there was no injuries (which we had heard over the fire radio) and the guy was sitting in the back of the PSP car. We asked the Trooper if we could talk to him and he said yes, and the guy said he did not want EMS and did not called for EMS and was not hurt. We said ok and then we went available. We then decided to head down to the fair grounds so I could get something to eat. We parked and swung by the first aid station to talk to my father who was at the fair, with Bruce, Kathy, Pam and John. I then went and grabbed something to eat and then we left to head back to Lykens. I asked him to stop at the Shell in Gratz and I grabbed something to munch on for that night. We then went back to the station. I sat down to watch some TV and was starting to think of going to bed when the tones went off for breathing problems in Jackson Township. It was another one of our frequent flyer and she lives on the street above me. We got in 6-8 and I drove down to the scene. Steppler ended up relasing her to BLS and then we headed back up to Lykens. Once we got back there, I laid down on the couch and went to sleep. I had gotten up around 05:00 hours to go to the bathroom and when I came back out, I heard the pager talking. It was for a fall victim in Washington Township and it was ours. So me and Steppler got in 6-8 and he drove. We got there and got the lady loaded up and took her down to Harrisburg Hospital. After we got what we needed, we headed back to Lykens. While we were heading back, the tones went off for a sick person in Lykens. Shift change had already occured. Don Deppen was my relief in Lykens and I was supposed to go back down to Eville to make a MICU with Jim. Well those two met up at the scene, with Jim brining the unit. It ended up being a refusal. We then made it back up to Lykens and Jim was there waiting. I grabbed my stuff and got in my car and headed on down to Eville with Jim following. He stopped at got fuel at Shell and I continued back to the station so that I could unload my stuff. After I did my rig check and Jim did a few things, we headed down to Gonder's to have breakfast. After we had breakfast, we headed down to Giant so he could buy a few things. We then headed back up to Eville after he got what he was looking for. Once back at the station I did my chart from the fall victim from that morning and then I sat down and watched the end of the second Austin Powers move and then watched Austin Powers in Goldmember. After the movie was over, we turned on the Penn State game. I ate a late lunch while we watched the Penn State game. JoePa needs to do something with Morelli. We need a better quarterback. After the game was over I then got on the computer to check a few things. Then around 19:45 hours the pager went off for a CVA in Jackson Township at Station 216. We got in 6-7 and the radio did not work. So Jim ran back inside and grabbed his portable radio and went responding. We got down there and he went to the hospital. Jim had mentioned something about seeing a red wire hanging under the dash earlier in the day. So once he left, I qucikly ran down to the fire station and grabbed a flash light to check under the dash. I found the wire and decided to go home to work on it. So I ran home with the unit and respliced the wires together. I then ran into Sheetz to wait for Jim to get back. I ran inside and grabbed something small to eat for dinner. Sue then called and I talked to her while I waited for Jim to get back. Jim got back and he ran into Sheetz to get something to eat and then I ran him back up to Eville. While we were on our way back, the tones went off for an unknown problem in Northumberland County. Don Kunst was the evening medic and he went responding in the squad. He got cancelled and came back to the station after we had already been there for about 15 minutes. I then got on the computer to check a few more things and then went out to the day room and sat down in the chair, and eventually fell asleep. I got up around 04:50 hours and got up and got my stuff on. I then clocked out at 05:02 hours and put all my stuff in my car and headed on home. Once at home I set my alarm for 07:00 hours and then got changed and went to bed to try and get a little bit more sleep. I got up this morning at 07:00 hours when the alarm went off. I got out of bed and got changed into street clothes and then I grabbed something to eat for breakfast and then got in my car and headed up to the fire station. Once there, I grabbed my gear and then headed into Shell to pick up two bottles of Gatorade for class. Amanda sent me a text asking me to let Tom know that she was going to try and make it to class, but she doubted that she would. I told her that I would let Tom know. I got down there and parked and then took my gear over to the pavillion. There were a few people there already, such as Bill, LeeAnn, Helen, Tom, Warren, Matt. Matt and Warren had brought Engine 29 dowo to use for the standpipe connection test and the sprinkler shut off test. We split up into two groups and my group went through forceable entry first. My partner was Troy. We ran through forceable entry and then we took a break while the other group finished up stand pipes and sprinklers. They the gave them some time to dry off and then the groups switched. We ran through stand pipe connections first and then we did the sprinkler shut off's. I did fairly good with the sprinklers, I did get wet and had some trouble finding the hole to put the wedges in to stop the flow of water. They then gave us another break so we could dry off. They then ran myself, Troy and Lonny through ladders, which we missed last Sunday. We did a single person 10 foot roof lader first, thne a single person 24 foot extension ladder. When I threw the extension ladder, Tom had me set it up in front of the windows on the drill tower. They then had us do a leg lock on the ladder. They then had us go up the 24' extension ladder with a pike pole, and once at top get off the ladder and into the window and then get back on the ladder and come back down. They then gave us a quick break and then we went over to the burn house and we did a two person 24' extension ladder and then a person went up top and threw an 18' roof ladder onto the roof. Troy and Lonny went first and then they took everything down and me and Troy went through it. I then needed a break as I was getting tired and a little out of breath. We took a break and then Tom sent everyone home that had already gone through everything. Me and Lonny then went back over so I could do the roof ladder. I got up to the top, but could not get the leg lock as my foot kept hitting the pulley. I told Tom that I could not get the leg lock and he told me to just come on down as he did not want to push me. I felt bad becuase I was not able to do the roof ladder, but Tom said that was ok. I then went over and changed and then threw my gear in the back of Bil''s truck, and Lonny did also and Bill gave is both rides over to our cars. Once at my car, I loaded my gear in my trunk and then left and stopped at the Uni-Mart on Front Street and got another Gatorade and then headed on back up through. I stopped at the fire house to drop my gear off and the Engine was sitting out front and LeeAnn, Bubba, Robby, his boy, Kenny, Lonny, House and the new guy (I forget his name already) were there. They were looking at the door that holds the cribbing as the handle had busted off because the cribbing had worked itselt up against the door. Warren then stopped in to check on me to make sure I was ok. I told him I was fine now that I got some water and Gatorade in me. We eventually got the door open. Bubba then left for work and LeeAnn, House and Kenny decided to wash the Engine for the parade this Saturday. I moved the Engine around for them and then I headed on home. Once at home I took a shower and then ate dinner while I did a few things on the computer. I am soon going to leave to head back up to Medic 6 to work a 36 hours shift at the Eville station. It has been a long and tiring weekend, but well worth it.
