Quiet 24 Hour Shift in Lykens
I went to bed Saturday night at 02:00 hours and got up at 07:00 hours when my alarm went off. I got out of bed and got dressed in my uniform and then packed my lunch and got my suitcase together. I then grabbed my three bottles of Gatorade and then got in my car and headed up to Lykens around 07:25 hours. I got up there and parked and went inside. John and Don Kuntz were sleeping on the couch's. I quietly put my lunch and Gatorade bottles in the fridge and set my suitcase down. I then clocked in and got on the computer to print out my rig check sheet. John then woke up, followed by Don. Don then had me call down to Jim in Eville. Jim told me to tell Don to come down to Eville first and then Jim would leave and head up to Lykens. Don logged his meds and then gather his things together and then left in his car to head on down to Eville. About 5 minutes after Don left, the tones went off for breathing problems in Schuylkill County. Jim called up to Lykens and asked if Don had left already and I said yes. Jim said he would go in the squad. I then did my rig check on then got on the computer to check a few things. Tommy then called up to Lykens and told me to come down to Eville and him and me would make up a BLS truck until Jim got back, that way we could keep Don available. I then got in 6-5 and headed on down to Eville. I got there and parked 6-5 out front and then Tommy said to get in 6-3 as he wanted to go get something to eat for breakfast. We went up to McDonald's and I got a sausage biscut, hash brown and a large oragne juice. We then headed back to Eville and we did a few things around the station and then I got on the computer to do a few things. Jim then got back and I told him I needed to get fuel for 6-5. He gave me his pin number and I stopped at the Shell in Eville and got fuel. I then headed back up to the Lykens Station. Jim then got in and said he wanted to go to Tower Sales to get something to drink and eat. He then wanted to run over to Don's Food Rite to get something to eat for lunch. We then headed back to the station. Once back, I ate lunch and read the Sunday paper that Jim had brought in. I then sat down and watched the race. Sometime in the afternoon, the tones went off for an accident with injuries in Reed Township. 6-3 went responding and Jim wanted to head on down through as the second due medic to assist. So he drove 6-5 while I rode shotgun. We got as far as Loyalton, when both units were placed in service. So we turned around and headed back to the station. Once there I went back to watching the race. All I did was watch the race for the rest of the afternoon and into the early evening. It was rain delayed twice for a total of 3 hours. They finally got it restarted and had to shorten the race since the track did not have lights. Greg Biffle ended up winning the shortened race. Wertz then came in as the night medic with me. He had already gotten something to eat from Dairy Queen, I told him I was going to take 6-5 and run over to Dairy Queen and grab something to eat and come back to the station. So I ran over and got some chicken strips, fries and a drink and then headed back to the station. I backed 6-5 in and then went inside and ate dinner while we watched TV. I then got on the computer again around 23:00 hours to check a few things and then laid down on the couch around 00:05 hours. I got up around 01:50 hours to go to the bathroom and I had just laid back down on the couch and started to drift off to sleep, when the tones went off for chest pains in the Borough of Williamstown. I got up and got my boots on and my things back on my belt, while Wertz went to the restroom. I then got in 6-5 and started it up and put us responding. We then ran up to Williamstown. We got there and the EMT placed Wertz in service. We then headed back to the station and I laid back down and went back to sleep. Around 04:10 hours the tones went off for a fall victim in Mifflin Township. It ended up being in Jackson Township, and county thought the address was in Mifflin Township. Then at 07:02 hours this morning, I sat straight up on the couch when I heard the fire tones drop for an accident with injuries in Jackson Township. I laid back down on the couch and listened to the fire scanner to hear what I was missing. They ended up being all done by the time I made my way down through. Jim and John came in then around 07:50 hours to relieve both me and Wertz. I clocked out and then we talked for a little bit and then I made my way home. Once at home, I went back to bed to try and get a little bit more sleep. I woke up this afternoon at 13:05 hours. I got out of bed and ate lunch and read the paper while I watched All My Children on TV. I then got on the computer to do a few things and to type up my two articles for the county convention book. I then made and ate dinner while I was on the computer and watching MASH on TV. I am now getting ready to take a shower and then am going to check the old email and surf the net. I will be on late tonight so if any sexy ladies want to talk to me, just give me a buzz.
