Interesting 24 Hour Shift at Medic 6
I left the house last night at 19:15 hours and headed on up to Lykens to work. I stopped at Tower Sales in Lykens and got gas and then headed over to Station 22. I parked and when I did, I noticed that the lights were out in the day room and there was only 1 vehicle in the parking lot. So I parked and grabbed my suit case, my lunch box, and 1 bottle of Gatorade and went inside. Matt was sitting at the computer doing a chart when I walked in. He said that Jim was on a call with Williamstown and that they would be dropping him off at the station on there way back up through. So I clocked in and then went out to do my rig check and that was when I noticed that the unit was dirty as could be. Matt said that the unit was clean when he started his shift, but Jim drove it through all the snow and puddles on the way up to Pottsville that afternoon. I told him that I would hose it down later on. Kuntz then got there and clocked in and shortly after, Matt finished his chart and clocked out and left and walked home. I then got on the computer to print out my rig check sheet and then after I filled that out, I checked a few things online. Jim then got back and I helped him bring his gear in and then he left after restocking the gear. I then pulled 6-8 foward a little bit and then hosed down 6-8 to get most of the dirty off of it to make it cleaner looking then it was when I came in. I then went back inside and got back on the computer to check a few things. Kuntz then laid down on the couch to go to sleep when around 22:30 hours, the tones went off for a fall victim in Williamstown Borough. I went out to the unit to look the street up in the map book while Kuntz got ready. I then put us responding and off we went. We got up there and Kuntz ended up being cancelled, so we turned around and headed back to the station. Once there I laid down on the couch and after Kuntz finished his chart, he laid down and left the TV on until around 24:00 hours and then he turned it off and went to sleep. At 00:59 hours, Bill sent me a text message and I could have killed him as it woke Kuntz up and also me, and I was just starting to fall asleep. I then fell back asleep after telling Bill not to text me. Kuntz left at 07:00 hours an I got up at 07:45 hours when my alarm went off. I got up and got my stuff together and then I ate my breakfast while I waited for Dwayne to come in. He got stuck behind a coal truck and did not get there until 07:59 hours. Around 07:53 hours, the tones went off for a call at the Keepler Home in Eville. Tommy and Jim took that call. Once Dwayne got in, I headed on down to Eville for the day shift. I got there and Steve was already there. I went in and put my lunch in the fridge along with my other bottle of Gatorade. I was talking to Steve about December's schedule when the tones went off for a sick person in Lykens Borough, Steve asked me if I was going to take the squad and meet up with 6-5 to make a BLS truck so that we could keep a medic available. I told him that was not a problem. So I got in 6-2 and took off for Lykens. I got there and we got the lady loaded up and then I drove down to Holy Spirit Hospital and Tim took the squad back to Eville so that he could stay available. I then heard 13 get a call in Jackson Township on Detrich Road. Sue and Amanda were on today and they took the call. After we got what we needed down at the hospital, we headed on back to the station. We got back and I parked out front and we went inside. I then helped Tommy finish the righ check of 6-3 now that it was back to being a BLS truck. I then ate lunch while I got on the computer to do a few things. Steve then told me that effective of January 1st, 2008, I will be in charge of all the medical supplies for the company. That includes ALS and BLS supplies. Meaning I would order supplies when we need it and would keep an inventor off all the supplies. He then had me do a quick chech on the BLS supplies and then the two of us went through the ALS supplies and then he showed me how to place an order. Tommy then came in and the three of us talked and then Jim came in and the four of us talked about different things. We then all went our seperate ways then. Jim then left to go over to the Gratz Auction to get something to eat. Me and Tommy then left and headed to Gratz. We stopped at his parents house first so he could pick up a few package and take them over to his house, which is what we did next. We then went over to the Gratz Auction to grab something to eat. I got a slice of pizza and a large Sprite. We then headed back to the station. Once back at the station I got back on the computer to check a few things. Then around 17:30 hours the tones went off for an ALS call in Millersburg. Jim went to that one and went down to the hospital with 20. Around 18:45 hours Tommy and me headed up to Wal-Mart so he could buy a frame to frame his Cert. that he got for becoming a Nationally Registered Paramedic. We ran into Kathy up there and the three of us got talking about a few things. We then left and headed on back to the station. Jim was back by the time we got back from Wal-Mart. Steppler then came in as he was starting his 36 hour shift. I clocked out and headed on home after talking to Steppler and Tommy. Once at home I took a shower and had a light snack. I am soon going to bed as I am tired.
