Busy Day at Halifax EMS
I went to bed Thursday night at 04:00 hours and was rocked out of bed around 04:48 hours when the pager went off for bleeding in Halifax Township. I got out of bed and got dressed and then got in my car and headed into the "Barn". I got in there and Scott already had 13-1 pulled out. I pulled in and parked and got in 13-1 and off we went. It ended up being our frequent flyer on South Elmer Avenue. We got there and this time he was not drunk. He was vomiting up blood, and quite a lot of it. We got him loaded up and then Tindel got on the scene and we headed on down to Harrisburg Hospital. After we got what we needed down there, I drove back. We dropped Tindel off at his squad and then headed back to the shed. Once there I logged my time in and then Scott gave me my door openers for the station for in my car. I then did the paperwork from the call. I then ran up to Sheetz and got gas and then headed on home. Once at home I went back to bed to get some more sleep. I was again rocked out of bed around 11:20 hours when first the fire pager went off and then the EMS pager went off for a CO Alarm in Jackson Township. I got out of bed and got dressed and then got in my car and headed to the scene after I called Dohn to let him know. My father was home for the day and he got dressed and went with the fire company. He drove the Engine. I got there and Rescue 21 was there and the Engine had just pulled in. I talked to Jason Faust, who was in charge and I asked him if he needed EMS and he said no, so I got on the radio in the Engine and put EMS in service. I then stayed and helped woth putting the fan away and then I went back to the fire house to make sure the report got on the desk in the station and then I left and headed on home. Once at home my father changed clothes and then he and my mother left to head down to Harrisburg to her doctor's appointment. I then called Sue and talked to her for about 20 minutes and then she said that herself, Amanda who had come home early from work, and Brcue were going to the pizza shop for lunch and I told them I would meet them in there. So I got back in my car and headed into town. Dohn did not have the bus sitting at home so I called him and told him that I was going out to lunch and that I was going to take the bus with me incase we got a call. I got up to the pizza sjop and parked the bus. I did not know that they were already there because they came in Bruce's truck. So Sue sent me a text message asking me where I was and I said at the pizza shop. Amanda then came walking out and I saw her, so I got out and went inside. She asked me hy I brought the bus with me and as I walked in I said that I told Dohn I was going to lunch, taking the the bus and if we got a call he would have to find me. I took my jacket off and put it on the chair I was going to sit in, when my EMS pager started talking (I had it on vibrate since I had been driving my car), for a sick person in Halifax Township. I picked my jacket back up and put it back on and went out and got in the bus and headed back down to the station to meet Dohn. Bill was still there when I got back and we talked for a little bit until Dohn showed up and then wet ook it off. It was another one of our frequent flyers. We got her leg splinted and Dohn said he wanted the Fire Company for help lifting since she could not walk on it. So I went out and called county and had them dispatch Company 29 class 3 for lifting assistance. Sue then called me and said that her, Amanda and Bruce were coming out to help. They got there and we got the lady onto the stretcher and then loaded into the ambulance by the time 29 got there. I thanked Tom and told him sorry. I then got in and drove down to Harrisburg Hospital. I talked to Sue while I drove down to the hospital and she said that she was thinking about going shopping that night and having Amanda cover for her so that me and Amanda could be a crew. She said she would let me know later on what she was going to do. After we got what we needed, we headed on back. As we were coming up the south side of the mountain, I heard the tail end of a transmission over Med 9 and I heard them say Company 13. Dohn then got on the radio and asked county if we had a call and they said a fall victim in Jackson Township, class 2. We told them that we were responding from the top of the mountain. We got there and it ended up being a refusal. So I ran into Shell and got fuel and then went back to the shed. Once there, I logged my times in and then headed on home. Once at home I ate dinner while I got on the computer to do a few things. I opened up my mail and I got my state certification for Haz-Mat Awareness and I sent in my application for my Pro Board Certification. I sent text messages to the people that also took it and then Amanda sent me a message back that she was on with me for the night. So around 19:45 hours, the pager went off for a head injury in Halifax Township, at the High School. I got my boots on and got in my car and headed into the shed. Amanda said that she was already at the shed. When I got there, the unit had been pulled out. I pulled in and parked and got in 13-1 and off we went. Amanda was really excited about being on with me. We got there and Lee and Dave met us and Lee helped us get the stretcher out, while Amanda grabbed a c-collar and the CID's and I grabbed a backboard and threw it on the stretcher. We then went rushing on the school and into the gym. The kid was laying on the mat, and Scott was there along with the sports trainer and I believe someone from the crowd. We got him loaded onto the backboard and onto the stretcher and wheeled him off to applause from the crowd in the gym. We got him loaded into the unit and Tracey was getting in while we did this. I turned the oxygen on and then got up front as I figured we would most likely be going class 1 to Hershey. I watched them in the back and I heard Tracey tell Amanda to to put an oral airway in. She tried and the guy bit down on it. He then told her to put a nasal airway in. She put one in and had it almost all the way in when the guy woke up and started going nuts. He ripped the NRB off and tried to get up. We ended up deciding to fly him out from the ball field in Dauphin. So Dohn and Scott got out and off we went towards the ball field in Dauphin, We trasferred the guy over to Life Lion and then I helped clean up the back of the unit and then we left and headed on back. We dropped Tracey off at his squad at the high school and then we headed back to the shed. Once there I logged my time in and the got the times for Amanda. I stayed and helped her with the paperwork, when the tones went off for seizures in Halifax Township. We got back in 13-1 and off we went. We got there and got the kid loaded up and then met MICU 6-3 and then I drove down to Hershey. After we got what we needed down there, we headed on back. We dropped Flipper off at Sheetz and then headed back to the shed. Once there Amanda helped me change the "M" tank on 13-1 and then I logged my time in and got the times for her and then I helped her with both tripsheets. We both left at 00:01 hours and headed on home. Once at home I talked to my mother for a little bit and went to bed around 02:00 hours. I got up this afternoon around 14:00 hours and I read the paper. I then wrapped 3 more gifts and then got on the computer to do a few things. I then ate dinner while I watched MASH on TV. I am getting ready to take a shower and then am going to hit the old email and surf the net. I will be on late tonight so if any sexy ladies want to talk to me, just give me a buzz.
