A Boring 24 Hour Shift

I went to bed Saturday night around 02:30 hours and got up at 07:10 hours when my alarm went off. I got up and got dressed and then got my lunch and Gatorade bottles together. I then left the house around 07:30 hours and headed up to Lykens to go to work. I got up there and parked and went inside. John and Kuntz were still asleep. I then went to the bathroom and when I came out I went out to the bay to do my rig check and Tim was already in the back doing his med checks. I started my rig check and when I got to the on-board oxygen, I noticed that the tank was empty. I tapped on the gague incase it was stuck and it still did not move. So I told Tim that we had to head down to Eville because the on-board tank was dead and I needed to put a new one in. He then went in and got John while I finished up my rig check. After I was done, we got in 6-8 and headed on down to Eville. Tim drove while I ate my breakfast. We got down there and I changed out the tanks and then we went into the day room and talked with Jim and Stutzman for a little bit. We then left and headed up to the recycling bins to drop of the cardboard that had been sitting in the bays at Eville. Just before we turned into the plaza, the tones went off for an accident with entrapment in Upper Paxton Township. Jim went responding with the squad and then Pam and Stutzman went responding with 6-3. After we dropped off the cardboard, we decided to head back down to Eville since Jim was on the Millersburg call. Tim than got on the radio and asked county if they knew how many ALS Pt's there were, and they said that they did not know. Jim then told us to head that way class 3 for now until we found out for sure how many there were. So we headed over that way and once Jim got on the scene, he said we could go in service. So we turned around and headed back to the Eville station. We got there and I started going over the BLS Supplies to see what I needed to order when we heard Jim go available from the scene. Me and Tim then got in 6-8 and headed back up to Lykens. Once there Tim backed the truck in and then I decided to hose it down since it was dirty. After that I then did an inventory on the ALS Cabinet. I then ate lunch while I typed up the list for the BLS Closet and the ALS Cabinet. I then checked quite a few things online while Tim slept on the couch and the bottom bunk while watching TV. I was on the computer for quite a long time and I finally got off I think it was around 17:30 hours and I sat down on the couch to watch TV. Around 18:10 hours the tones went off for breathing problems in Williams Township. Tim got up and I went out to 6-8 and got in it and started it up awhile. When I saw Tim come out of the door, I put us responding and off we went. We got to the scene first and Williamstown never got out as they had a driver only and no EMT. We got the guy loaded and took him up to Pottsville Good Sam. After we got what we needed there, we stopped at KFC and both got something to eat for dinner and then headed back to Lykens. We stopped at the Tower Mini Mart in Lykens and I got a half gallon of chocolate milk and then we went back to the station. Once I backed the truck in, I went in and sat down on the couch to wacth TV and eat my dinner. I finally went to bed around 13:00 hours. I woke up this morning at 07:50 hours and got up when I heard Jim come in the door. I got the stuff back on my belt and my boots on and then I put my pillow back in my suitcase and got my stuff out of the fridge. John then came in and I told him about the truck and then I left so I could get down to Eville to cover for Zach. I got there and parked and went inside and Steve was getting a cup of coffee and Bruce and Beef were still asleep on the couch's and Kathy was out in the bay doing the rig check on 6-3. I put my lunch box in the fridge and then took the insurance papers up to Wendy so I could ask her a few questions and then hand them in. Bruce and Beef then woke up and started moving around. I was back in the day room when I heard a knock on the doro and I answered it and it was Bruce with his application. He asked if Steve was in and I told him to come in and I took him into Steve's office and introduced him. Bruce gave Steve his application and then Steve told me to give him the tour of the station and the rigs. Since Bruce does not have EVOC, we can't hire him just yet. However, I talked to Steve about having him observe me for a few shifts so we can get him in the back and get him used to wroking with his skills. So I talked to Bruce and he was cool with that. I talked to him a little bit more and then he left since he was working at 9 later on that afternoon. By that time Beef and Jim had finished making breakfast for everyone and I had 5 pancakes and a sasuage. I then went back to going through the BLS supplies and the ALS supplies to see what I needed to order. I then went in Steve's office to go over the list with him when the tones went off for breathing problems in Washington Township. Me and Kathy got in 6-3 and Beef got in 6-1 and off we went. We got there and ended up calling for 21 to come in class 3 for lifting assistance since we could not get the stretcher into the house and she was a pretty big lady. Once we got her out and loaded into 6-3, Beef and Kathy took her down to Holy Spirit Hospital and I took 6-1 back to the station. I was back at the station for only a little bit when the tones went off for chest pains in Williamstown. Jim and John went responding and took that call. Then about 30 minutes later, I heard Chief 20-B call county and ask for an ambulance and a medic to be dispatched to the Brubaker Tool Company for chest pains and heart problems. ( I just found out about 20 minutes ago that this was Kim Matter that they took down to the hospital and that he was in A-Fib). I then ate lunch and Zach finally got there around 13:45 hours. I talked to him for a little bit and then clocked out and left and headed on home. Once at home I changed and then read the paper. I then got on the computer to do a few things and eat dinner. I then went up to the fire house around 18:30 hours for the meeting tonight. The meeting lasted under 1 hour and then we stayed around and shot the shit and then we all headed on home. Once at home I took a shower and then sat down to watch the BCS Championship Game. Around 22:00 hours Sue sent me a text that Bill has not been feelign well the past 3 days and that 13 might be taking him down to the hospital tonight. At 22:53 hours, Amanda called my cell and told me that they were going for Bill and dispatching fire. I got dressed and then woke my father up and told him that 13 was going for Bill and that they were calling for fire and then I grabbed my keys and left the house. I was just turning onto Enders Road when County finally dispatched us and I parked my car at the station just as the house siren was starting it's second evolution. I ran inside and turned the lights on and went to my stall and kicked off my shoes. I then got my pants on and grabbed my jacket and helmet and opened the bay door for the Engine as I ran over to it. I threw my jacket and helmet in the front seat and went to the driver's side and unplugged the Engine and started it up and then got in the officers seat. I then saw my father coming running over and get in the driver's seat of the Engine. He asked me if anyone else was coming and I told him to give it a few minutes and at that time LeeAnn pulled in. I told him to pulled the Engine out awhile and close the bay door. I rolled the window down then and yelled to LeeAnn to hurry up that it was Bill we were going for. She ran over and got in and then I saw Jason turn down the alley so I told my father to hang tight. Jason parked and ran inside and got his pants on and when he came out of the station I yelled to him to hurry up that it was Bill. He got in and I put us responding and off we went. I had the button for the Q down hard from the time we left he station until we got out onto 225. We got there and we got Bill to put the NRB on and breath in the oxygen and we also got him to slow his breathing down before he passed out. We then got him loaded into the unit and then 6-3 showed up. I went over and told Beef that it was Bill while my father grabbed the med bag and the monitor out of the unit and took them to 13-2. Once they got things hooked up to him they took him to Harrisburg Hospital. I then took 6-3 into the ambulance shed and Dave picked me up and ran me back out to the station. We talked for a little bit and then we all headed on home. I am soon going to bed now as I am really tired.
