Crazy People in Wiconisco
I went to bed Thursday night around 01:30 hours and got up at 07:10 hours when my alarm went off. I got out of bed and got dressed. I then grabbed my jacket, hat and suitcase and took them out to the kitchen. I then got my lunch and Gatorade bottles together. I then got in my car and left the house around 07:29 hours and headed up to Lykens to go to work. I got there and parked and went inside. I clocked in and put my stuff in the fridge and then talked to Yeager and Flipper until they left. I then did a rig check on 6-3 and then put that in the computer and then Tim put his narc numbers in. I then ate my blueberry muffin and drank my orange juice. Around 07:56 hours, the tones went off for a call in Millersburg. Jim ended up taking that call. While I was on the computer doing a few things, I heard Jim say that they were going to be getting a patient refusal. County then called 20-1 about 5 minutes later and asked them if they were available yet and they said they were just getting ready to call in. County then told them that they had another call in Millersburg for them. The tones then went off for breathing problems in Millersburg Borough. Jim took that one also as he was just outside of Millersburg on his way back to the station. After I was done on the computer, I went over and sat down on the couch to watch TV. Tim was sleeping on the other couch. Then around 11:10 hours the tones went off for chest pains in Elizabethville Borough at the PT place. I told Tim that Jim should have been back by now. So I got on INET to see if he was and 20-1 had gone available 2 minutes before this call was dispatched. 6-3 went responding as an ambulance and the tones went off the second time for ALS. I told Tim to forget it and just get in 6-5 as Jim was dicking around so he would not have to take the call. So we got in 6-5 and off we went. We got down there and Carl and Stutzman were bringing the lady out and put them in the back of 6-8 and me and Tim got in the back. We then told them to take 6-5 back to the Eville station and we would swap out trucks when we got back. I then drove down to Holy Spirit Hospital. While we were down at the hospital, the tones went off, but we did not hear anything except static. When we took the stretcher out to the unit, I turned the key on so the radio's would come on so we could hear what we had. I heard County tell 20-1 that they were heading to an unresponsive person, so we knew Jim was on that call. After we got what we needed there, we stopped at the Wendy's by Holy Spirit to get something to eat for lunch. As we were pulling in the tones went off again for breathing problems in Upper Paxton Township. We heard 6-3 go responding and they told County that both of our ALS rigs were tied up on calls. So we got our food and as we walked out to the rig, County came back and told 6-3 that Perry Medic 81 and the City were all tied up and that they were going to try and get an ALS unit out of Northumberland County to come down. Carl then told County to check to see where we were as we should be on our way back from Holy Spirit Hospital. Tim got on the radio and said that we would respond from Holy Spirit Hospital. Tim waited until I was ready to pull out and said lets go and I turned the lights on. Now there were two lines of solid traffic sitting there waiting for the traffic light to change green and they had no where to pull off to. So I decided to go down the opposite side of the street. When I pulled out I reached up for the air horn chain and I felt none, and I realized that we had switched trucks and this truck had no air horns. I then went through the City to Sixth Street and then got on Cameron Street and headed that way. We met 6-3 at Sheetz in Halifax and Tim went down with them to Harrisburg Hospital and I headed back to the Eville station. Once there I backed 6-8 into the bay as that was the truck down at Eville and I went into check on supplies. I made a list of stuff I needed to order and then went up front and talked with Wedny. Jim then got back and then shortly after that, 6-3 got back. Tim restocked and we switched the gear back and then we left and headed back up to Lykens. We got up there and then we sat down to watch the second disk of Season Two of Emergency. I then grabbed my lunch out of the fridge and had that. after we watched the second show, Tim then logged hi charts in and then we went back to watching Emergency. Matt Smith then came in as I was preceptting him last night. Around 19:50 hours, the tones went off for chest pains in Jackson Township. Kuntz ended up going on that call. We then ran over to Dairy Queen to get dinner but they had turned the fryers off, so we went to Chao's and got dinner and went back to the station to continue watching Emeregcny. Jim Hoffman then came in and we got talking and he told me that Season 4 of Emergency was now out. He watched the one episode that we were watching and him and me made comments about how things have changed so much from back then. We watched Emergency up until around 23:50 hours and then Tim got back on the computer to finish his charts. I then turned on Discovery Channel and then laid down on the couch. I fell asleep at some point and woke up when the tones went off at 00:58 hours for a sick person in Wiconisco Township. I got the stuff back on my belt and got my boots on and then got in 6-3 and off we went. We got there and I let Matt run the show and I just stood back and watched. We got the guy loaded into the back of 6-3 and then headed on down to Harrisburg Hospital. Again I let Matt run the show and I sat in the captain's chair and watched. This guy was just plane crazy. Apparently 3 to 4 days ago, while he was putting trash in a dumpster outside, he slipped on the ice and it ripped his shoes off of his feet and cut his feet all up. He was treating at himself and his friend told him not to let id scab over and to take the scabs off with a pen, which is what this guy had been doing for the past few days and now his feet were infected. The first thing I told him is he shouldn't have taken the scabs off as they help the skin to heal. So then when we were getting him on the stretcher he had his girlfriend bring out his two suitcases and he also had a plastic grocery bag with stuff in it. Matt asked him what it was and he said it was filters, rolling paper and a can of tobacco. Both Matt and me told him to leave that stuff here is he would not be rolling any smokes down at the hospital becuase he could not smoke down there and he could not smoke in the ambulance. After we got him loaded we headed on down. On the way down he told us that he took Percoet the past few days for the pain and he had also taken some Oxycotin that he had left over from pain he had in his teeth. After he was in the unit for 5 minutes he was already asleep. Matt did not like this and asked me to get a radial pulse on his right arm. At this point I decided to move up to the CPR seat. We kept asking the guy if he had taken any drugs or had any alcohol because of the way he was acting. He was slurring his words and having a hard time staying awake. He told us that he also took hydrocondone that he had for his TMJ. We got down to the hospital and when Matt gave the report to the nurses, I stayed there as it was funny as hell. Oh I forgot the best part, he was recently released from the State Pen after doing 5 years for growing pot and the reason he had all of the luggage was because he was going to check himself into the phsyc ward at Pottsville Hospital, where he is a frequent visitor. We then told the nurse about his girlfriend. She was also a recent release from the State Pen and also a recent left leg amputie from Mercy she got while in the prision. After we got what we needed we headed on back. Once back I laid down at 04:00 hours and went to sleep. I woke up at 07:55 hours when I heard Jim and Zach talking. I got up and got my stuff on my belt and my boots on and put my pillow back in the suitcase and then clocked out. I filled out a preceptor form for Matt and then me and Tim left and I headed on down to the Eville station. Once there I picked up my check and then left and headed on home. Once at home I talked to my mother for a little bit and then went back to bed to get some sleep. I woke up this evening at 05:00 hours. I ate dinner and read the paper and then took a shower. I am now getting ready to hit the old email and surf the net. I will be on late tonight so if any sexy ladies want to talk to me, just give me a buzz.
