Natural Cover Fire
I went to bed last night around 01:00 hours and got up this morning at 10:30 hours. I got out of bed and changed into old street clothes. I then ate lunch and read the paper. I then got on the PS2 to play a little GTA Liberty City Stories. Katina then called me at 11:59 hours and said she was up at the station and I siad I would be up in a few. I then put my game away and grabbed my shoes and headed on up to the station. I got there and parked and Katina and LeeAnn were there. I then grabbed a baby changing table out of the back of LeeAnn's vehicle and took it into the hall. We ended up putting it in the bingo room for now until we decide where to put it. They then put a soap dispensor on the all in the kitchen. We then talked about putting the air conditioners in the hall. Katina called Schoffstall to see if he was coming and he said he would be there then. We then got the thermometer out and put it on cinder blocks beside the station. Kenny then came down and we started to tape up what we did not want to paint white on the sign. Bubba then got there and we told him what we were going to do and then him and Katina ran up to Kratzer's in Eville and got the supplies that we would need. By the time they got back, Lonny had shown up also and Jess and Jaz had stopped up after they got back. Troy then showed up and then went down to Bubba's house. Jess, Troy and Robin then went somewhere and Bubba had already left for work. LeeAnn, Katina, Kenny, and Lonny were then working on the two fileing cabinets getting them preped to paint them. I then put 1 coat of white paint on the one side of the sign. As I was waiting around for it to dry, we heard Chief 29-1 ask county if they had any record of a controled burn on Powell's Valley Road. They came back and said no. A few minutes later, Box 29-1 was dispatched to 700 Powell's Valley Road, Halifax Township for a natural cover fire, brining just station 29. Chief 29 went on the scene and asked for 2 additional brush trucks and 1 additional tanker. We all kind of headed into the station as we knew they were going to hit for the Tanker and we were going to take the Utility also. They then dispatched us and Lonny thought he heard them ask for the Engine. So I kicked my shoes off and got my bunker pants on and then grabbed my jacket and helmet and got in the Engine. LeeAnn then said about calling in to see if they wanted the Engine or not. So I called in as the Engine and they said that the Tanker was due. I then asked county to check with Command 29 to see if they wanted the Utility also and I heard Alf say to bring it. So I put the Tanker responding with 2 and the Utility with 3. Lonny and LeeAnn then got in the Tanker and Myself, Kenny, and Schoffstall got in the Utility. As Lonny was pulling out, I saw my father come walking around the front of the Tanker. I also saw Dave and Matt Faust park and get out of Dave's truck. My father came over to the Utility and I shrugged my shoulders and he asked me where it was and I said 700 Powell's Valley Road. We then pulled out and off we went. We followed the Tanker in and once we got to Powell's Valley Road, they sent us over to Dividing Ridge Road. The Tanker set up on the hard road to fill brush trucks and we took the dirt lane and started heading back up through. We got up and I parked about 30 feet behind Attack 20. I then had Schoffstall get out the rakes and we worked with 20 on getting a fire line started. When they ran out of water, we moved up to the top of the ridge and I beached the Utility in a clearing in the woods and then we helped widen another fire line on another section of the fire. We then all gathered up at Tom's truck and Dave Warfel went over what we were going to do. We were going to form a line and walk out through and look for any hot spots and if we found them, rake them up and then get water on them. After we were done, we headed on down to the Powell's Valley Road. We stopped at the Canteen and grabbed something to eat and then went available and headed into Shell to get fuel. The Tanker was waiting there for us. After we got fuel they stopped at the pump house to fill up and we headed back to the station. Once there I got out of my gear and boy did it ever feel good to do so, especailly after being in it for almost 4 hours. We then helped Katani put the thermometer away in the old fire house and then we pulled the rakes out and I hosed them down and then filled the indian tank up and Kenny put the indian tanks away. Myself, Lonny, and Kenny then repacked the trash line on the Tanker which they had used to fill brush trucks. I then put th rake heads away and Lonny put the handles away. I then left around 21:53 hours and headed on home. Once at home I took a shower and am soon going to bed as I am really tired.
