Day of Fire Calls

I went to bed Tuesday night around 03:00 hours and got up Wednesday morning at 07:10 hours when my alarm went off. I got out of bed and got dressed and then grabbed my camera and suitcase and took them out to the kitchen. I then packed my lunch and got my Gatorade bottles together. I then left the house around 07:28 hours annd headed up to Eville to go to work. I got up there and noticed that the squad was missing, so I knew at least Tindell was out on a call. I parked and got my stuff together and headed inside. Steve was already there and talking to Brian when I walked in. I sat my suitcase on the couch and put my lunch box and Gatorade bottles in the fridge. I then clocked in and grabbed my pager. Me and Steve then did a rig check on 6-3 and then Tim came in and went out to check the gear on 6-3. I then filled out the paper work while I ate breakfast. Jim then called and said about him coming down to Eville to make breakfast. Tim then went back into the men's bunk room and laid down to get some sleep. Jim them came in and started making breakfast, biscuits, scrambled eggs and sausage gravy. Boyer then came in and I talked to him about my paycheck and then I asked him if he had an update on a delivery date for the new 6-5. He said that it was coming that day. So I went back in and had a plate of breakfast and then went to work on putting a BLS bag together for the new 6-5. I then went to get a pulse ox and found out that the batteries don't work. So I said something to Boyer about needind batteries to put the bag in service. He said to run up to Family Dollar and get some. So I told Steve that we needed to run up to Family Dollar. He said he would take 6-7 since it had to go to West End Garage for an oil change and then I could pick him up. So that's what we did, he took 6-7 up to West End and I picked him up in 6-3 and then we headed up to Family Dollar. Once there I got some double A batteries and some zip lock bags since we didn't have any more and then we headed back to the station. When we got back the new 6-5 was already there. I got to work right away on stocking the unit so it can be licensed. Steve helped me with the outside compartments. While we were putting the "M" tanks into the unit, Jim and Stutzman left and headed back up to Lykens. After we finished stocking the outside compartments, we took a break. Then around 12:20 hours the tones went off for a CVA in Eville Borough. We got in 6-3 and Tim got in 6-1 and off we went. Of course this happened when it was pouring out, so naturally we got soaked at he scene, because the wife parked her car in the street, blocking their driveway, so we couldn't back up the driveway. We eventually got the guy loaded and Steve drove Tim down to the hospital, and I took 6-1 and went back to the station to work on stocking the inside of 6-5. I got back and went back into the BLS room and got two big boxes and started putting supplies in them to take out to the truck to save on a lot of walking. I got the boxes out there and started going through them, and then around 14:30 hours the tones went off for a sick person, class 2 in Lykens Township. Boyer asked me if him and me wanted to just handle it since 6-3 was not back yet, or would I rather stay at the station and work on 6-5. I told him I would rather work on finishing stocking 6-5. So 6-8 from Lykens took the call. 6-3 then got back and I said I needed to run up to Wal-Mart to get some different baskets for the one cabinet, since the ones I had wouldn't fit. Around 15:15 hours I took Tim and ran up to Wal-Mart and got 4 baskets and Tim got the chicken and some charcoal to make the food for the staff meeting tonight. I got back and had just finished stocking 6-5 when the tones went off for an accident with injuries in Upper Paxton Township on Route 147. Tim went responding in 6-1 and then 20-1 went responding. County then advised of two injuries. So me and Steve got in 6-3 and off we went. We got about half way there and county came back and said that the location was now changed to the 4900 block of Route 209 in Washington Township. I turned around at Dauphin Graphics and we headed back up to the scene. The accident was in front of Bumble Bee Hollow, the miniture golf course. We got on scene and it was a rear end collision, however it was a good accident. The lady rearend the pickup truck and most likely totalled both vehicles. Steve headed on down to the pick up truck to check on those patients and I checked out the lady from the other vehicle. She ended up being a refusal as she had a minor laceration on her arm. We ended up taking both guys from the pick up truck. Tim decided to ride on down since he had quite a bit of patient contact with the one guy. I moved Tim's squad into the one parking lot and then we headed on down to Hershey. Once we got what we needed down there, we headed on back. We stopped at the Hess Gas Station so I could get something to eat since I was starving, and especially since I did not stop working on 6-5 to eat lunch. We then continued on back. While we were coming back, around 19:30 hours the tones went off for breathing problems in Lykens Borough. Jim and Stutzman took that call. Once back at the station we restocked the extrication stuff and then restocked Tim's gear and then went into listen to the end of the con-ed class. Once everyone left, me and Tim sat down on the couch and I put in Disc 2 and we started to watch an episode of Season 4 of Emergency. We got about halfway through when I heard 6-8 backing up beside the buidling. I stopped it as I knew Jim would most likely bitch that we were sitting around doing nothing. We were all standing out in the bay when my fire pager went off, followed by the tones for wires arcing in Jefferson Township. We got in 6-3 and off we went. We did manage to get on the scene. While enroute I heard both the Engine and Tanker go responding over the fire radio we have in 6-3. I got out of the rig and Jason was on Engine 19-1. I walked over and we started talking and he said that us (216) shouldn't have been dispatched on the call, but he thinks county put it in as a brush fire and that was why we were dispatched. The box was put in service very quickly and we headed on back to Eville. We stopped at Koppy's and I grabbed something to munch on and Tim got something to drink and we headed on back to the station. Once there Tim took the squad and ran up to get fuel in that. I took that time to do the dishes and sweep the carpet. Once he was back we finished the episode of Emergency. Tim then went back into the bunk room and went to sleep. I then did my refusal chart and my chart on the wires down call. I then put my big BLS supply order in since my BLS supplies took a hit when I had to stock 6-5. I then went to sleep around 02:00 hours. I woke up at 04:59 hours when the station tone went off for a BLS call for Dalmatia. I went back to bed and woke up again at 07:39 hours when my fire pager went off for a structure fire in Halifax Township. Naturally I was upset that I was now missing a second call due to being at work. I got up and got the stuff back on my belt and got my boots on. I put my pillow away and got my lunch box out of the fridge, then grabbed my scope and bag out of the unit and took them out to my car. Once Stutzman got there I clocked out and headed on down to the station. I called Bubba and asked him if he was on the call and he said yes. I then told him I was heading down to the station and I asked him if he wanted me to grab my gear and headed into the scene. He told me to just stay at the station as the Engine crew was just standing there and they weren't being used. Once there I went in and decided to sweep out the Engine bay. As I finished the Engine got back. Dave was driving with Schoffstall in the officers seat and Ray in the back. Bubba was up at Swab's and was soon getting ready to leave to take that truck down to Berks County when the call came in and he went to the scene in his car. I then talked to the guys and then Bubba and then finally left around 10:10 hours and headed on home. Once at home I changed into pj's and went back to bed to get some more sleep. I ended up getting back up at 12:15 hours as I couldn't get back to sleep. I got out of bed and ate lunch while I read the paper. I then headed up to the fire house around 13:40 hours. Once up there I started working in the old fire house. I reorganized the festival stands and then moved around the plywood, frames for the stage and the old steps. Troy showed up while I was doing the stands and washed the Tanker off and then mowed most of the lawn. He then left around 16:00 hours and I then whacked weeds and finished mowing the rest of the lawn. Charlie, Matt, Bruce, and Tyler from 29 came out to pick up the exhaust fan off of the Utility to use during the play at the high school. They also bought the water curtin that we had in the old fire house. I left there around 19:20 hours and headed on home. Once at home I took a shower and then ate dinner. I am now getting ready to hit the old email and surf the net. I will be on late tonight so if any sexy ladies want to talk, just give me a buzz.
