Vegetable Oil Spill
I went to bed last night around 03:00 hours and got up this morning at 12:30 hours when Bubba called my cell phone to ask me a question. I talked to him for a little bit and then got out of bed and ate lunch while I read the paper. I then changed into old street clothes and headed up to the fire house to do some work in the old fire house. I got up there and went inside and started cleaning out the back corner by the rear door. My father then pulled in and I helped him move the fryer out to the tailgate of his truck so he could work on it. I went over into the fire house and grabbed a dust pan and small broom for me to use and an extension cord for my father and headed back over. He finished with it while I was working on the table in the back. I helped him move it back inside and then he headed on home. I then moved the two portable pumps from up front back and put them under the table in the back. While I was doing that, 29 got hit to held Chief 29-2 with fluids on the roadway in front of Fetterhoff's Church. After about 20 minutes, they hit for our fire police to help with traffic control. I called Bubba and asked him if he wanted me to take the Utility and he said that was fine and to also grab the road signs and a few bags of oil dry and take up also. So I locked the old fire house up and then got my gear on and pulled the Engine out. I then put the signs in the back and then put two bags of oil-dry up front along with my jacket and helmet. I then pulled the Utility out and went responding and then backed the Engine in and got back in the Utility and took off. I got to Snyder and Armstrong Valley Road's and Troy was there along with Lee Warfel and Jean. I told Troy to grab one of the signs out of the back of the Utility and then I headed on down to the scene. Once there I talked to Tom and then pulled in beside Utility 77 and dropped off the two bags of oil-dry and our roll of plastic sheeting. I then headed back up to where Lee was. Jean headed on down to Snyder and Rutter Roads. I then helped Lee direct traffic. Then around 19:15 hours they dispatched for the Tanker to come to the scene so they could put CAFS on the vegetable oil on the road way to help the clean up company. It ended up being 1,000 gallons of vegetable oil that was on the roadway. We finally opened up the roadway around 20:45 hours. I took the sign down and put it in the back of the Utility and then headed into Station 29 to pick up the stuff I had dropped off. I got there and picked up the roll of plastic, and the barrel of pigs that my father had taken down to them at one point. I then ran over to Shell and got fuel. The Tanker then came from getting water at the pump house and they fuled up and then Engine 29-1 also came in to get fuel. I then headed on back to the fire house. I guess the Tanker crew went back to Station 29 to eat the food that they had made and then came back. Once back at the station I put my gear away and then the bag of oil dry that 29 gave me and then I put the barrel of pigs away and then finally the road signs. I then made out a report and by that time the Tanker was back. They then put foam in and then we all left and headed on home. Once at home I took a shower and then got something for dinner. I am soon going to bed now as I am tired.
