Halifax Firemen's Carnival, Night 3
I went to bed last night around 04:00 hours and got up this afternoon around 12:30 hours. I got out of bed and ate lunch while I read the paper. I then took a shower and then got on the computer to do a few things. Then around 14:00 hours I heard it thunder outside and I closed the windows that were open in the house and about 2 minutes later it started raining. Then around 14:16 hours the fire pager went off for Company 216 OIC to call communications. I started getting dressed as I knew we were going to be getting a call. As I was getting my shoes on the pager went off for a tree down at the intersection of Armstrong Valley Road and Rutter Road. I grabbed my keys and got in my car and headed up to the fire house. As I pulled in, Kenny came running down from his house. I parked and then went in the back door and kicked my shoes off and got my bunker pants on. As I pulled my bunker pants up, I heard County say Capt. 216, and then they did the three beeps and said that Capt. 216 requested that the Engine and Utility hold in quarters. I heard Bubba start the Engine and I saw Schoffstall pull in. Bubba then pulled the Engine out. I then grabbed my jacket and helmet and walked out to the Engine and opened up the officers door and Bubba said to me about taking the Utility so that we would have a second saw, as the tree was supposed to be completely blocking the southbound lane. I said that Jason just told us to hold in quarters. Bubba then beeped Jason and asked him if he told us to hold in quarters and I heard Jason say that yes he did, as PennDot was already there and then shortly afterwards, the box was placed in service and Bubba backed the Engine back in the station and we went back inside and I hung my jacket up and put my helmet away and took off my bunker pants and put my shoes back on. Jason then showed up and we all started talking. I then grabbed the clipboard out of the Engine and filled out an incident report. We then all talked for a while and then Jason left, and then Schoffstall and then Kenny headed on home. I stayed and talked to Bubba and then left around 16:20 hours and headed on home. Once at home I finished up what I was doing online and then changed shirts and got my stuff for the meeting together and then grabbed the money box and money can and left around 17:08 hours and headed up to the fire house ot get things loaded for LeeAnn. I got up there and LeeAnn was already there. I parked and went inside and put the can in my cubby hole and put the money box in the Utility. Bubba was working on putting a new cover on the cord recpicale on the Utility and Robby was helping him. I talked to them and then I loaded the wheel into the Utility. Once they were done and Robby headed on home, I pulled the Engine out and then LeeAnn pulled the Utility out and over to the trailer and I helped her hook the trailer up to the Utility and then she pulled it over in front of the fire house and I loaded the four wheeler onto the trailer and secure it. I then left and headed on down to Swatara Township, Station 49. I got down there and parked and went inside and put my stuff in the Hap Bestline Confrence Room and then took a look around the station. We then ate and they made meatball subs for us and then we had the meeting. Just as we were getting setteled in for the meeting, they got hit for an accident and the alert tone in the station went off and then the house siren starting going off. The meeting went very good, I brought up about my two awards and I was appointed as the chairperson for a committee to start researching information on this stuff and then I picked my father and John McCready as the other members on the committee. After the meeting was over, Dwayne grabbed my daily number tickets and started loooking at them and I told him they were two numbers for $10.00. He bought a ticket and then Mark Gubb bought one and then Darlene Deitz bought one and then Jackie from Williamstown bought one. Once I got everyone's money, I left and headed on up home. I stopped at Sheetz and got gas and then went down to the borough park and parked beside the Utility and then went over to Lonny and House to see how they did. House said he had 13 tickets stubs, and Lonny said he didn't know if there were any stubs in there from the night before or not. I then went over to the candy wheel to see how they were doing. LeeAnn said it was not as busy as last night. I then said hi to Bill as he was at the pull tab stand next to ours. Jess then came over and we both played some quarters. She kept losing and I then won. I turned to her and told her to pick what she wanted. I then went and got a soda and then played the money bowls and then went over to the craps table and was there for about 45 minutes playing. I then helped them close up around 22:30 hours. I told LeeAnn that I think part of the problem for the night was the band, as they really did suck in my opinion. Once at the fire house I unhooked the four wheeler and moved it into the station while LeeAnn unloaded everything from the Utility and took it into the station. We then unhooked the trailer and locked it up in it's normal spot. I then put the Utility away and then the Engine and then she gave me the money box and left to head on home. I then went up to the hall and counted the money for the night. We made $76.75 for the night, which is not to bad, but less then what I was hoping to make. Once I was done counting money, I headed on home. Once at home I took a shower and am soon going to bed as I am tired.
