Vehicle Fire

Last night I watched more of the Olympics on TV. I watched Women's Beach Volleyball and Misty May and Kerri Walsh beat the Cuban team. They then started showing Men's Team Finals in Gymnasticis, they then switched to the 200m Freestyle Finals in Swimming, which Michael Phelps won again. They then switched back to Men's Gymnastic's as the comption was heating up. The men's team ended up taking a Bronze medal, which they were happy with and I was happy with. I then switched over and was watching Softball with the USA against Venzuila. Then at 01:37 hours the fire pager went off for a vehicle fire at the intersection of Mountain House Road and Harman Road. I quickly got dressed and got my shoes on and grabbed my pager, wallet and cell phone and then grabbed my keys and got in my car and off I went for the fire house. I got up there and parked and unlocked the back door and went inside. I turned the lights on and ran up front and hit the button to open the Tanker bay door. I then kicked my shoes of and got my bunker pants on. I then heard LeeAnn pull in as I grabbed my jacket and helmet and headed over to the Engine. I sat my jacket and helmet on the hood of the Utility and LeeAnn came in with her gear. She opened the Engine bay door and asked me what unit was going to be going first. I said most likely the Engine as my father was coming up. I then took my glasses off and my hearing aid out and put them in my case and threw the case on the dash in the Engine. I then put my hood on and my jacket and zipped it up. I went to start getting in the officers seat of the Engine when the station phone rang. I ran back and quickly answered it as I had an idea who it was. I was right, it was Robby. He asked me who we all had and I said myself, LeeAnn and my father. He told me to go ahead and go responding and he would meet us at the scene. So I hung up and told my father to get in the Engine and lets go as Robby said he was going to meet us at the scene. We all got in and off we went. I put us responding and then started working on getting the pack on. Dave then went responding in the Tanker. I got all packed up and then Dave called us on the private channel. I told my father that I was all packed up and he said he couldn't answer because he was driving. I answered on the radio and was talking through my mask, so I am sure I sounded funny. County then came back and said it was on White Oak Road in the Weiser State Forrest. Robby called County with his cell phone and advised them that he was on scene with a working vehicle fire and for us to pull the trash line off when we got there. We got there and as we rounded the turn you could see the orange glow from the flames. We stopped and me and LeeAnn jumped out. I connected the regulator to my mask and then went back and took the straps off of the trash line and grabbed the nozzle and took off walking. LeeAnn flaked out the remaining line and then came up behind me to back me up. I signaled to Robby to charge the line and he did and then I opened the nozzle up and started my attack. I started at the trunk and started moving in when the driver's side rear tire blew. I backed up a little bit and Matt Faust came over to me and told me to move in and head towards the engine compartment. I started moving in towards the car again when I sprayed water on the engine compartment, the bright white lights started and I figured it was hitting magnesium and again I backed out and moved around to the front of the vehicle and started appling water there. Matt then came up to me and told me to head back to the trunk and force the fire back up into the engine compartment. So we moved back and I started applying water again, while he tried to pop open the trunk. He got a small opening and told me to put the nozzle in and apply water, which I did. He then cracked the hood open and I did the same thing. I then gave Matt the nozzle as he wanted to spray under the vehicle with it. About that time my low air alarm went off and Robby came over and said we could take our masks off. My father turned my air of for me and I took the mask off. Me and LeeAnn then went back to wetting down some hot spots and then I asked Dave if we could take our packs off and he said yes. We then did mop up and then put everything away and then headed back to the station. Once back at the station I put my jacket and helmet in my stall and my father backed the Engine up to the bay door. The Tanker then showed up and topped off the Engine's booster tank again and then Dave headed in to fill up with water and get fuel. I then hosed down the hose while Matt, Robby, my father and LeeAnn we packed the 50' section of 2-1/2" from the hose bed and the trash line on the Engine. Matt and my father then hung the wet hose up to dry. Bubba then showed up after my father backed the Engine in. I had taken my bunker pants off and put my shoes back on and grabbed my mask and pack out of the Engine. I cleaned the mask up and then cleaned the pack off and put a new cylinder in the pack and put it away. We then all talked and then we all left around 04:30 hours. I quickly ran into Giant and picked up two gallons of Diet Iced Tea and a gallon of milk and headed on home. Once at home I quickly put up the information on the website and then went to bed around 06:00 hours. I got up this afternoon at 01:45 hours. I got out of bed and read the paper. I then called Bill and told him how the call went. I am now getting ready to make dinner and then am going to do a few things online while I watch the Olympics on TV and eat dinner. I then go to work in Lykens tonight for a 12 hour shift and will be back tomorrow morning.
