Busy Night at Work
I went to bed Thursday night around 02:00 hours and was rocked out of bed Friday morning around 06:30 hours when the fire pager went off for a cardiac arrest in the 1 box. I got out of bed and quickly got my clothes on and then headed out to my car. My father had the day off and was already out at the back of his truck and was getting his bunker pants on. I got in my car and headed up to the fire house. I pulled in and ran inside and kicked my shoes off and got my bunker pants on and grabbed my jacket and helmet. The Engine was running when I came inside and as I was getting my bunker pants on, Bubba pulled the Engine out. I went out the front foor and my father was just pulling in. I went to the officers seat and opened it up and threw my jacket and helmet in and Bubba told me to go shut the Engine bay door. So I quickly ran back and pulled the door shut and then ran back up and got in the officers seat and my father was getting in the right rear jump seat. Bubba put us responding and I grabbed the AED and sat it on the dashboard. I then asked my father to hand me up a pair of XL gloves and I got them on. We got on the scene and 6-3 had just pulled in. Bowser and Steve were the crew and they were just walking in the house when we parked. I jumped out and headed in the house and Steve and Bowser saw me come in. When I walked in I heard Bowser say to the daughter that the lady was beyond help as she was cold and stiff and turning purple. I turned around and told my father who had just come in and Bubba. As we exited the door of the house I saw Jason close the Engine door after getting a pair of gloves. We then got back in the Engine as Steve said we could go in service. We backed out as Jean and Jason stopped traffic and as we got on the main road, I saw Andy heading back towards his car. We headed back to the station and once there I had Bubba sign the incident report that I had filled out. I then took my bunker jacket and helmet over to my stall and then took my bunker pants off and put my shoes back on. Andy had come back to the station and Paul from Millersburg stopped in to get an application to run with us also, as he mainly runs with Millersburg, but does a lot of work in our area. I then shot the shit a little bit and then had to head on home as it was 07:15 hours and I head to get ready for work. Once at home I changed into my uniform, grabbed my digital camera, suitcase and my street clothes for this morning and took them out to the kitchen. I then packed my lunch and got my Gatorade bottles together. I then left the house around 07:30 hours and headed up to Lykens to go to work. I stopped at Tower Mini Mart and got a paper and then headed to the station. I pulled in and parked and Tim was there. I got my stuff together and when I walked by Tim I said to him that he was in Eville for the shift. He said that he thought so also, but then he saw me go by heading towards Lykens and he then looked at his cell phone and it said Lykens. Wertz pulled the schedule up and Tim was indeed down in Eville, so he left to head on down to Eville. Yeager was Wertz's overnight partner. I put my lunch box and Gatorade bottles in the fridge and then sat my suitcase behind the couch and clocked in. I then put my scope and bag in the front of 6-7 and then did a rig check on 6-7. I then went inside and filled my paperwork out while I ate breakfast. Jim them came in and Wertz and Yeager left. Jim talked to me all morning and during the time that he didn't talk, I read my paper. I had just started reading the sports section when around 09:30 hours the tones went off for breathing problems at the Lykens Family Practice, which is just down the street from the station. I got in 6-7 and put us responding. We got there and got the guy loaded up and then I helped Jim get some stuff done in the back and then we headed up to Sunbury Hospital. We got up there and after Jim got what he needed and I cleaned the back of the unit up and put all his gear away, he asked me to go with him to the snack bar. I went and got an Orange Soda and a bag of chips to munch on and then we left and headed on back to Lykens. Once at Lykens I restocked the gear that Jim had used and then did 20 laps in the bay of the station. While I was at Sunbury, Sean Grimm had called me to confirm again that our fun day was thsi Sunday. He then told me that their Utility was taking the Boat up to Selinsgrove for a water rescue class and he wondered if one of our guys could come up and get the trailer. I told him that I would call Troy and then get back to him. While I was walking, I left a voice mail with Troy and Sean called me again to ask me one more question. After I was done walking, I went in and finished reading the sports section. After I was done reading the sports section, I got my lunch out and as I was getting ready to start eating when the tones went off around 13:00 hours for a call in Eville that 6-3 handeled. I then watched some TV and then around 16:00 hours Jim wanted to go over to the Gratz Mall, so we went over and then headed on back once he was done buying his food for the week. Once back at the station I went back to watching TV and then Jim clocked out and left at 18:00 hours and I decided to stay up in Lykens and just run a QRS until Beef got in for the night. I watched the rest of MASH on TV and then checked a few things online. Beef then called at 20:00 hours and said to me that no one told him that he was working in Lykens, so he went to Eville instead. He told me to just bring the unit down and once I got there we would figure out what to do for dinner. I took 6-7 down there and when I got down there Beef was watching Tim and Stutzman playing on Tim's x-box. They decided to get to Hawaini pizza's from Jo-Jo's and I got a ham and cheese sub, and two pieces of cheese pizza. Tim and Stutzman ran up to get the food and also went to Wal-Mart and got two DVD's to watch. Once they got back we ate and watched "The Dewy Cox Story". Very good and funny movie. After that was over we shot the shit some and then looked at a few different things online and then around 24:00 hours me and Beef headed back up to Lykens, me in 6-7 and Beef brining his vehicle up. I then laid down on the bottom bunk and watched the rest of Mythbusters and then went to sleep around 01:00 hours. I was rocked out of bed around 02:30 hours when the tones went off for an accident with injuries in Wiconisco Township. I got up and started getting the stuff on my belt and was yelling for Beef to get up, and he wasn't. They hit our tones a second time and I got my boots on and then hit Beef's arm and told him to get up. He moved a little bit and I told him we had an accident with a man laying in the middle of the road. Beef didn't move so I hit his arm again and repeated that we had an accident with a guy laying unconscious in the middle of the road and that they were on the second set of tones. This got him up and he put us responding and county came back and said that PSP was requesting EMS ASAP. We got on the scene and PSP had the guy leaning up against the hood of their car. The guy had been ejected out of his vehicle and also had been drining. His car was totaled. I don't know what he hit, but whatever it was, it was solid. I went over and took C-Spine on the guy and Beef got the stretcher out and then a backboard, C-Collar, spider straps and towel rolls and came over to me. We put the c-collar on and while Beef had C-Spine, I did a rapid physical exam of the guy. We then got him to lay down on the backboard and then we decided to move him to the back of the ambulance and secure him to the board once we had him inside. We got inside and started putting the spider straps on and then Tim and Stutzman showed up. Beef called county and said that if Life Lion could fly, put them in the air, as county was alreading checking on their status as we left the station. They came back and said that Life Lion was a no go. So the guy didn't want to go to the hospital, but we told him he had no choice as he had been ejected from his car. Once we got him secured and Beef and Tim got the two lines we got going down to Hershey Hospital. Beef told me as we were coming off the south side of the mountain to not be afraid to open it up once we hit the highway, and I told him I planned to. Once we hit the highway, it was off to the races. I had the PSP Trooper sucked up to my ass end since just outside Loyalton and he stayed with me the whole way down to the hospital. Once we got what we needed, Beef asked me to stop at Sheetz so he could use the restroom and grab something to eat and drink. We stopped and I decided to get a 5 piece chicken strips to munch on and a large Gatorade to drink and then we headed back. While we were heading back, as we were coming into Dauphin, the tones went off for a call in Northumberland County that 6-3 handeled. We stopped at Eville so I could put another backboard on and a C-Collar and a set of spider straps and Beef restocked his supplies. Stutzman then got back and we shot the shit for a little bit and then left around 06:50 hours and headed back up to Lykens. Once there I laid back down in bed to get a little more sleep. I was rocked out of sleep again around 07:47 hours for breathing problems in Millersburg Borough. I got up and went to the restroom and came back in and the tones went off a second time. I got the stuff on my belt and quickly called down to Stutzman and I asked him if Tim was back yet and he said no, then I asked him if his relief was there yet and he said that Ron was not there yet. I said ok and hung up and woke Beef up and told him the story and said we were on the second set of tones. He put us responding while I got my boots on and then we got in 6-7 and off we went. We ended up meeting 20-1 by the Wooden Nickle. As I was coming through the Borough, LeeAnn called me and said that I didn't have to worry about going to Wal-Mart. She said that Bubba was never able to get ahold of the lady from Wal-Mart and when they got there and went inside to talk to the lady above this other lady, they had no idea that we were coming up there to do a chicken bbq for them and didn't have anything on the calander either. So we got stuck with 125 halves of chicken. We all agreed that Wal-Mart should be billed and then we will use some of them for tomorrow and some for the chicken corn soup we are going to make in 2 weeks. I said ok and then told her to call me when they were getting ready to do the chicken for Swab's. Once Beef got on 20-1 and headed on down to Harrisburg Hospital, I headed back to Lykens. I got there and John wasn't there. I clocked out as I thought he might have accidently went to Eville instead. I then waited around a little bit and ate my slice of pizza for breakfast. When he wasn't there by 09:00 hours, I called Kathy and asked her if he was coming in. She said that he had just left as he had accidently over slept. We then talked about the accident from earlier in the morning and then John showed up. I gave him my report and said that Beef and 20 had arrived at Harrisburg about 10 minutes before he got there. Also 6-3 and 6-1 were on a chest pains call in Wiconisco at Minnich Terrace. He said that he was going to head over there to see what everyone wanted to do. I then left and headed on down to Wal-Mart. I stopped and got 4 badge holders as mine broke the night before. I then headed on home. Once at home I changed into pj's and went back to bed to get some more sleep. LeeAnn called me around 11:00 hours and said that they were getting ready to start the chicken for Swab's. I said I would be up in a few minutes. I got out of bed and changed into street clothes and then headed on up to the fire house. LeeAnn, Troy, Andy, Barb, Robin and Tonita were all there. Troy asked me if I could get on the computer and make up certificates for tomorrow, which I did. While I was doing that, Lonny got the charcoal in the pit and got it started. We then got the chicken on and then Troy had to run into town for something. I then ran home and got mine and my father's four wheeler tickets and then headed back up to the fire house. Troy was pulling in when I left to head home and when I got back, he was moving Millersburg's smoke trailer down beside the old fire house in the grass. We then went through it to see how it worked and we ended up smoking it up a total of 4 times over the course of the afternoon. We then got the chicken off around 14:00 hours and then, myself, Troy and Lonny relaxed in the old fire house for a little bit. The a guy stopped to buy some four wheeler tickets and then Schoffstall showed up and we shot the shit for a little bit. We then went over to the fire house and got some of the kiddie stuff down for the kiddie games and took it up to the hall. We then went back into the trailer once LeeAnn and Bubba got back so we could show Bubba how it worked. Jaz then came in and she fell in love with the trailer. We let the smoke disapate from the trailer and then we smoked it up again and shortly after we started, Jess came in and sat down beside me, mainly due to the fact that she could barley see where she was going due to the smoke. We then talked some outside and then people slowly started leaving. Lonny left around 15:00 hours and I left around 16:30 hours and headed on home. Once at home I read the paper and then ate dinner while I watched college football on TV. I then took a shower and ate a light snack while I watched the Penn State, Illinois game. It is currently half time and the score is 21 to 14, Penn State. I am now getting ready to hit the old email and surf the net. I will be on late tonight so if any sexy ladies want to talk to me, just give me a buzz.
