A Day From Hell
I went to bed Tuesday night around 02:45 hours and got up at 07:10 hours when my alarm went off. I got out of bed and got dressed and then grabbed my digital camera and my suitcase and took them out to the kitchen. I then packed my lunch and got my Gatorade bottle togther and then left the house around 07:25 hours and headed up to Lykens to go to work. I stopped at the Tower Mini Mart and picked up a paper and then continued to the Lykens station. I parked and got my stuff together and then headed inside. I walked in and Tracey asked me if Tim was my partner and I said no that it was Jim. Well he said that Tim called off sick and that Jim had headed to Eville and that I should head on down there also. So I went back out to my car and headed back down to Eville now to go to work. I got there and parked and took my stuff inside and clocked in and then put my lunch box and Gatorade bottle in the fridge. Jim was setting at the desk in the day room and Tindell and Kathy were sleeping on the couches in the day room. O'Neil was up front talking to the bitch and according to Jim he had been up there since he came in yesterday morning. I then went out and did a rig check on 6-7 and then went into the computer room and ate breakfast while I filled out the proper fourm. Then around 08:30 hours the day from hell began. Around that time the tones went off for a call in Upper Paxton Township. Me and Jim took that call in 6-7. As we were arriving on the scene there, the tones went off again for chest pains in Jackson Township. O'Neal and Boyer took that call in 6-8. Jim got cancalled and we headed back to Eville by going down through Halifax and back up through. Boyer went with Halifax down to the hospital and we went back to Eville. Jim had me stop at Koppy's so he could get something to eat for breakfast and then we headed back to the Eville station. We got back and were maybe back in the station for 5 minutes and the tones went off again for breathing problems in Lykens Borough. Once again me and Jim took that call in 6-7. On the way up county kept updating the information and Jim decided to call O'Neal and tell him to come up and give us an extra hand. We got the lady loaded up and took her down to Osteo. After we got what we needed, I ran back and visited with my grandmother for about 10 minutes and then we left. Jim needed to get something to eat, so we went to Arby's and I grabbed something to eat and then we headed on back. When we got back, 6-8 was gone and the bitch said that they went up to Wal-Mart to get something to eat. I then went out to the med room to get the stuff to restock Jim's gear when the tones went off for a fall victim, class 1 in Dalmatia. I quickly restocked Jim's gear and then yet once again we got in 6-7 and off we went for Dalmatia. As we got on the scene up there, the tones went off for a fall victim, class 3 in Lykens Borough. Once again Boyer and O'Neal took that call and went to Holy Spirit. I went back to the Eville station and sat down and started to read the paper. The bitch had already left for the day. My mother then called me and gave me and update on my grandmother. Not much had changed, but they decided not to do radation on her and she didn't really want it either. Jim them called me and I ran back up to Dalmatia's station and picked him up and then headed back to the Eville station. Once there I again restocked his gear and then went back in and sat down and started to read the paper again. Jim went into his office to take care of some business. About 5 minutes later the tones went off for a cardiac arrest in Millersburg Borough. I got up and told Jim and he said that he would be out in a minute. We got in 6-7 and off we went. When I finally landed at the scene in Millersburg, Jim grabbed the monitor and headed on in and I had Donnie Harris to grab the med bag and I put all the other bags in 20-1. The BLS crew from 20 and the crew from Attack 20 had already delivered two shocks to the guy by the time we got there and Jim shocked him 4 more times before they got him loaded up in the ambulance. While we were heading to the code, the tones went off again for a traumatic injury in Williams Township at the high school and Boyer told them to go next due. Then while we were working on getting the guy loaded up at the scene of the code, the tones went off for breathing problems in Halifax Township. Apparently Tim went to the doctors and talked to Boyer about coming into work last night, but when he heard the code come in, he switched his scanner over to Med 9 and then heard them dispatch the Williamstown call. He was trying to catch that call when 24 placed ALS from Schuylkill County in service and then he took the call in Halifax. They were going to land Life Lion in Millersburg but as we were loading the guy in the ambulance, Life Lion had a 12 minute eta. So they changed the LZ to Station 29 and off they went with me and O'Neal chassing 20-1. Tim then went by in 6-4 heading towards the Halifax call while we were sitting at the LZ. They flew the guy out and then we moved Jim's gear back to 6-7 and then we started back up to Eville. Scott Paul had dropped 6-4 off at the LZ and Boyer took it back to Station 13 and O'Neal picked him up. As we were heading back up to Eville and the tones went off for a fainting in Washington Township at the Upper Dauphin High School. Both units ended up going to the scene but Ambulance 6-4 signed onto the air for it. It ended up being a refusal and both units went back to the station. I helped Jim restock his gear and then I ate dinner while I logged my refusal and checked a few other things online. Tim then got back with 6-4 and then around 19:30 hours I got my stuff together and then left and headed back up to Lykens to meet up with Wertz who was coming in for the night shift. I then finished reading the paper while I was up there. I got to take a tour of the back streets of Eville since their Halloween parade was going on and when I got to Lykens, their Halloween parade had just ended. I then parked at the Lykens station and fought my way through the crowd and headed into the day room. Wertz then showed up and he started to check his gear, but it was getting to crowded so we loaded up and headed on down to Eville so he could go over his gear and log his narc numbers. We then left and headed back up to Lykens. We stopped at Ciao's and grabbed something to munch on for the night and then went back to the station, where Wertz sat down and watched the World Series. He then popped in a John Wayne DVD and we watched McClintock. Then around 23:30 hours the tones went off for abdominal pain, class 3 in Wayne Township and O'Neal and Tim took that call. I then watched Mythbusters until 02:00 hours and then went to sleep. I was rocked out of sleep around 05:20 hours when the tones went off for a call at SLV. 6-7 took that call and I reset my pager and went back to sleep. I was again rocked out of sleep around 05:35 hours when the tones went off for a fall victim, class 2 in Jackson Township. Wertz was all gun ho to go on the call so I humored him and got the stuff back on my belt and then got my boots on and got in 6-4 and off we went. Before we got out of the borough, they went responding and we were placed in service. We then stopped at Shell so Wertz could get a cup of coffee and I grabbed something to drink and munch on and we headed back to the station. Wertz played another movies and I went back to sleep. I was woken up around 08:00 hours when John called my cell phone for me to let him in since he had forgotten his keys. I went over and opened the bay door for him and then I got the stuff back on my belt and got my boots on and put my pillow away in my suitcase. I then left around 08:20 hours and talked to Bill on my way down to Wal-Mart. Once there I picked up some stuff to make my Halloween costume for tomorrow night and then I headed on down to the Eville station. Once there I filled my time card out and then left and stopped at Swab's to see how they were coming along with te body for the Squad. They got most of the compartments done. I took a few pictures and then heaed on home. Once at home I changed into pj's and went back to bed to get some more sleep. I woke up this afternoon around 14:30 hours and I got up as my mother was coming in the door. My grandmother is going to be coming home tomorrow. They put a chest tube in her this morning and that is going to stay in her now until she passes away. I then read the paper and then once my father got home the three of us talked about what all needs to be done. I then ate dinner and then I changed into street clothes and answered the door for trick or treat. We had a total of 39 kids come to the door. I then took a shower around 20:30 hours and then had a light snack. I am now getting ready to hit the old email and surf the net. I will be on late tonight so if any sexy ladies want to talk to me, just give me a buzz.
